In the UEFA list, Kevin Keegan came 20th out of the top 50 European players.
Was Keegan that good? He is before my time, but I've often heard it said
that when Dalglish replaced Keegan, he turned out to be a better player.

Keegan finished above Hagi, Baggio, Moore, M. Laudrup (and B. Laudrup :-),
Figo, Raul, van Nistelrooy, Linker, del Piero. Was he better than all these
players?

Who do you think was better between Keegan and Dalglish?

I also don't think Zidane should be no. 1. I would perhaps go for Eusebio or
Puskas, or maybe Platini or Cruyff. It's hard to compare because like many
people, I have not seen a lot of footage of these older players. I've seen
highlights of Eusebio in 66 and he was amazing. Platini's 84
performances/goals return for France in the Euro Champs were outstanding.
Puskas' goal record for Hungary is one of the best ever. And Cruyff had a
move named after him :-)

In Anfield terms definitely Dalglish, few had heard of KD when he came from
Celtic and yet as you correctly say and IMO the player he "replaced" he over
shadowed.
Keegan was awarded European player of the year, played "in Europe" ie Germany
and had a higher profile in this respect than Dalglish, who is where on the
top 50 list??
Perhaps this and the international career KK enjoyed(as opposed to the
doldrum like performances of both Scotland and Dalglish for Scotland)
explains the standing of Keegan in this list against KD.
????
If we knew the criteria for the judging maybe this would explain some of the
more mysterious placings in the top 50.

Difficult to call really, you can't argue with Zidane, what hasn't he won??
What can't he do??

Chubby Checker **invented** one, sang about it and had the whole world doing
it(still doing it 45 years later) but I bet he' not on the list ;-)

It's good reading though the 250 eh??
Toto Schillaci!!!
But there in 1994-03 lies Michael Ballack, amongst the best 11 midfielders in
Europe
over the last 10 years???
Nah.

I only caught the tail end of Dalglish's Scotland career, but have heard it
said he didn't really turn it on for Scotland. Indeed Denis Law was voted
Scotland's best ever player a while back. He doesn't figure on the list
either.

It was a public vote through the UEFA web site. Two keepers are in the top
10 (Zoff and Yashin) which I don't agree with. I think you English think of
Banks as your best keeper, but he didn't make the top 50 while Shilton made
#39. The best keeper of modern times (Andy Goram) didn't even make the 250!

Yeah but Eusebio, he got the ball and ran past defences. Zidane doesn't do
that much. I don't think he is as effective and deadly in his play as others
have been over the years.

Nah.
If you want a laugh find Pele's best 125 living footballers today list. Two
woman are in it along with El Hadgi Diouf, but Marco van Basten is not in
it!

Nah.
How can Becks be 22?? Michael Laudrup for one were far better and so are
many of the other players behind him in the list. I think it might be down
to the size of the player's countries (more votes from UK for instance than
Denmark)

this is not answering your question but i will never forget one performance of
keegan in the mid seventies... liverpool were playing leicester at home...
midweek evening kick off... we won 5-1 (or 5-0) and keegan didn't score at all
but nobody would dispute that he was the man of the match... he was just
unbelievable... and HE HAD A FLU AND WAS A DOUBT UNTIL RIGHT BEFORE THE KICK
OFF...

What about the question of whether Keegan was better than this list of
players? I didn't know he was that good. I mean, better than Baggio?
